ARCS welcomes new Fellows
The American Research Center in Sofia is preparing for the arrival of two 9-month Fellows and three 3-month Fellows. Monday, Sept. 3 is the first official day of the Fall term. The incoming Fellows are:
- Andriy Fomin (Rutgers University) - 9-month Fellow - Topic: How Dio wrote History: Dio Cassius Historical, Literary and Intellectual Techniques
- Stefan Peychev (University of Illinois, Urbana) - 9-month Fellow - Topic: Public Baths and Urban Space: the Case of Ottoman Sofia
- Cengiz Haksoz (University of Pittsburgh) - 3-month Fellow - Topic: The Pomaks across the Greek, Bulgarian and Turkish Borders
- Max Holleran (New York University) - 3-month Fellow - Topic: On the Coast: Tourism and Urbanization in post-Socialist Bulgaria
- Caroline Wisler (University of Illinois, Urbana) - 3-month Fellow - Topic: Conflict Transformation and Peace building in the Balkans
As all Friends of ARCS are aware, the Center hosts a Lecture Series between September and May. In accordance with the Mission of ARCS, to promote and support research in the Humanities and Social Sciences within the regional context of the Balkans, the lectures span time from prehistory through the modern day. The inaugural lecture is by Prof. Glenn Bugh, Professor of Classical Studies, Virginia Tech University, Sept. 11 at 5:30 p.m.
All lectures are free and open to the academic community and the general public
