The American Research Center in Sofia (ARCS) announces a competition to select the most outstanding Bulgarian dissertation in the field of Ottoman History that has been defended in the last ten years (in 2002, or afterwards). The winning dissertation will be translated into English and distributed throughout Europe and North America. 

The competition is open to Bulgarian citizens who have written dissertations at any of the accredited institutions on the Balkans and currently reside in Bulgaria. The proposed dissertations will be judged by an international jury of experts. The winner of the competition will be announced on December 1, 2012. The author of the winning dissertation will be expected to submit a revised version, which takes in account the recommendations of the jury by September 1, 2013, after which the work will be translated and published in English.
