The American Research Center in Sofia (ARCS) was established in 2004 as an organization dedicated to facilitating academic research in Bulgaria for North American scholars and collaboration between scholars from North America and countries in Southeast Europe (Albania, Bulgaria, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro, Romania and Serbia).
A principal aim of ARCS is to foster research and collaboration between North American scholars and those in Southeast European countries, formerly deprived of access to Western scholarship.
Professor Cyril Pavlikianov, Faculty of History, Sofia University, will lead a seminar on the subject of 'Athonite mentalities through the centuries - uniformity and diversity colliding. Reformation and Counter Reformation echoes on Athos under the shadow of the Great Turk'. This event is free of charge and open to the public. The language of discussion will be English. The seminar will take place at the American Research Center in Sofia, 75 Vasil Petleshkov St., 1510 Sofia.
Professor Evelina Kelbecheva, Department of History and Civilizations, American University in Bulgaria, will lead a seminar on the topic of 'The Treatment of Islamic Minorities in Bulgaria under Communism'. This event is free of charge and open to the public. The language of discussion will be English. This seminar will take place at the American Research Center in Sofia, 75 Vasil Petleshkov St., 1510 Sofia.

Professor Maya Vassileva, Department of Classical and Mediterranean Studies, New Bulgarian University, will lead a seminar on 'Mainstream Religious Ideas in Thrace'.
